We are tucked away in Room No 27 over at Ramnath Mishra Ch. It’s right near the Shiv Sena office on Kailash Cinema Road. Santacruz West is always noisy and crowded, but that’s actually good for us. We handle clothes and stitching work mostly. The space is pretty small, just enough for the sewing machines and some big fabric rolls. Usually, there's a lot of thread and scraps on the floor by the time we close up for the night. We've been in this specific room for quite a few years now. The light isn't always the greatest, but we make it work somehow. Most days are spent cutting fabric or checking on orders that need to go out to customers. It gets really hot in the afternoons, so we keep the old fan on full blast. Neighbors drop by sometimes for a quick talk about the weather or the local news. It’s a tight community around the cinema road area. We aren't doing any high fashion shows or anything like that here. Just basic apparel work for regular people who need things made or fixed. The walk up to the room is a bit narrow and the stairs are quite steep. Sometimes the delivery guys complain about carrying heavy rolls up here. We just tell them that's how these old buildings are. We try to get things done on time, though sometimes the power goes out. It’s just us doing our bit here in Santacruz.
