You can find us at No. 008 in the Shanti Nagar Industrial Estate. We are located in Vakola, Santacruz East, and the Grand Hyatt is just a short distance away. It is funny because the hotel is so fancy and our industrial estate is just a bunch of concrete buildings and narrow lanes. Inside our unit, it is all about apparel. We have long tables for laying out cloth and rows of people working on shirts and collars. The air is often filled with the sound of steam irons and clicking machines. It gets quite cramped when a new shipment of fabric arrives, and we have to navigate around the rolls. The lighting is bright and functional, not atmospheric. We spend our days making sure the seams are straight and the buttons are on tight. There is always a bit of a rush to meet deadlines, so the atmosphere is usually quite focused. Outside, the street is always packed with tempo trucks and motorcycles. We get our lunch from the local stalls nearby, and the humidity in Santacruz can be a bit much during the middle of the day. Our space isn't meant for showing off; it is a factory floor where the real work happens. We focus on the shirts and the details that go into making them. It is a noisy, busy place but we are used to the pace of the estate. Most of us have been working here together for quite some time now.
