Sai Sindhi Jewellers is right in the middle of the action at 36, Mirchi Galli. We are directly opposite the Jumma Masjid, which is a great landmark for anyone trying to find us in the crowd. Mirchi Galli is always packed with people and the smell of spices is everywhere. It’s a lively place to have a jewellery shop. We’ve been here for a long time, watching the crowds go by every single day. Our shop isn't the biggest on the street, but we have a lot packed into it. We deal with gold and silver and the usual things people want for weddings or gifts. It’s a noisy street, especially on Fridays when the mosque is busy, but we like the energy. We don't have a polished showroom with fancy lighting like the malls. It’s more traditional here. You sit down on the floor or a stool, we show you the pieces, and we talk. Most of our customers have been coming to us for generations. They knew my father and now they know us. We don't do big sales or crazy promotions. People come to us because they know where we are and they know we’ve been here forever. It’s a bit of a squeeze when the shop gets full, but that’s just part of being in Mirchi Galli. We stay open late most nights to make sure the work is finished properly.
