If you head over to Khar East, Nilkanth Apparells is in the Jawahar Nagar area on Sai Baba Road. If you’re trying to find us, just look for Ashok Beer Bar or the Lal Maidan; we are right behind those landmarks. It’s a busy little pocket of Khar. There’s always something happening on the street, and the Lal Maidan usually has some game or event going on. Our workspace is pretty simple. It’s mostly filled with fabric, sewing machines, and people working. It’s not a place where we have a fancy reception area or anyone to greet you at the door. You just walk in and see the work being done. There are piles of cut cloth here and there, and the sound of the machines is the main thing you hear. We don't use any big words to describe ourselves. We are just a local garment unit. Sometimes the orders are big and we stay late, other times it’s a bit more relaxed. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, and we know the neighborhood inside out. The guys at the local shops know us, and we know them. It’s a community. We don't do much advertising; our name is just there on the door. We focus on finishing the shirts or whatever else is on the table that day. It’s just regular work for regular people in a busy part of Mumbai.
