Our place, Ricamo India, is at dhivani no.1314 in Gurgaon. We are right opposite the West Express Highway, which means the sound of cars and trucks is constant. It’s a busy part of town, always dusty and always moving. The building isn’t the newest one on the block, but it serves us well enough. We have a lot of things piled up inside because there’s always something to do. The Gurgaon heat can be really something in June, and we just try to stay cool and stay focused. We don’t have a fancy reception desk or anything like that. You just walk in and you see us working. We know the highway traffic patterns by heart now—when it’s going to be a standstill and when it’s going to clear up. We often see the truck drivers stopping nearby for a quick rest. The afternoon light hits the building at a sharp angle, making it hard to see the computer screens for an hour. Sometimes the rain makes the road outside a bit of a mess, but we still make it in. It’s a practical location for us, even if it’s not the prettiest. We spend our hours here, surrounded by the stuff we use for our daily trade. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s our life. We just keep the lights on and the work going, day after day, without making a big fuss about it.
