Real Spice Herbs

Our shop, Real Spice Herbs, is in Mazgaon at 319 Ram Bhavan on Gokhale Marg. It is an old building with a lot of character, though the stairs can be a bit steep if you are carrying heavy loads. We deal in various herbs and spices that we source from different parts of the country. Inside, the shop is lined with wooden shelves that hold dozens of glass jars. We try to keep things organized, but when a new shipment arrives, there are boxes everywhere for a few days. My uncle is the one who knows the most about the different herbs, while I handle the customers who come in. We get a mix of people—some are looking for something specific for a recipe, and others just want the basics. We don't have a fancy display or bright lights. It’s just a quiet place where we work throughout the day. The building stays relatively cool because of the thick walls, which is nice during the summer months. We close up for an hour in the afternoon to have lunch and a small rest. Most of our business comes from word of mouth in the Mazgaon area. We don't do any advertising. We just focus on weighing the herbs correctly and making sure our customers get what they asked for. It is a slow-paced but satisfying way to earn a living.
