Out in Malad West, near Gate No 5, you’ll see where Ramesh Fruit Vendor operates. It’s located at Plot No 5, specifically in the room there. It’s not a big shop with aisles and trolleys. It’s more of a local setup where the fruit is stacked up in crates and on small tables. The smells change with the seasons—mangoes in the summer, oranges later on. We spend a lot of time sorting through the stock to make sure everything is okay to sell. It’s a lot of lifting and moving boxes around. The area can get pretty muddy when it rains, and the space isn't exactly climate-controlled. We just use fans to keep the air moving. It’s a simple way of living. We get our stock early and spend the day selling it to the people who walk past Gate 5. There’s no big marketing plan here. We just put the fruit out and wait for people to see what we’ve got. Sometimes we have a good chat with the regulars who have been coming for years. It’s a small, slightly cramped space, and the floor is usually covered in some straw or bits of cardboard. We don't have a fancy billing system; it's mostly just writing things down or remembering prices. It’s a basic, everyday business. We keep it simple and just focus on getting through the day's stock before it gets too late. Some days are slow, but that's just part of the trade.
