Parekh Cloth Store

Our shop, Parekh Cloth Store, is right opposite the Kabutar Khana in Khar West. If you know that area at all, you know how many pigeons there are around. It’s a very famous spot in the neighborhood. The 40002 postcode area is always crowded with shoppers and traffic. We’ve been here for many years and have seen the street change a lot. We sell mostly unstitched cloth and different types of daily fabrics. The shop is quite narrow but it goes back a long way. We have lights that stay on all day because the sunlight doesn't reach the back sections very well. Customers often come in after visiting the nearby temple or doing their grocery shopping for the week. It’s a loud neighborhood with horns honking all the time. We have wooden benches for people to sit on while they look at the cloth rolls. My family has been doing this for a long time. We know the names of most people on the block. The shop across from us sells sweets, so it always smells like sugar in the air. We don't spend money on big neon signs. The old sign above the door is a bit faded from the sun now. We keep the fabric in plastic covers to keep the pigeon dust off it. It’s a bit chaotic during the festive seasons, but we like it that way. It’s a local Khar business.
