Occasions Dry Fruit Co is situated at 29-A in the Kalbadevi area. If you know this part of the city, you know how packed and loud it can get. Our shop is quite narrow, so we have to use every inch of wall space for our shelves. We stock all kinds of dry fruits like almonds, walnuts, and dried figs. My brother and I have worked here since we were young. We learned how to tell the quality of a cashew just by looking at the color and the shape. The shop doesn't have much room for people to sit, so customers usually stand at the counter while we fetch what they need. We use a sliding ladder to reach the top shelves, which can be a bit of a workout. In the months leading up to the big festivals, we stay open much later than usual. The street outside is always full of carts and people pushing past each other. It can be stressful, but we are used to the rhythm of Kalbadevi. We don't use any fancy packaging unless someone specifically asks for a gift box. Most of the time, we just put things in plain brown bags. It’s a no-nonsense business. We focus on keeping the bins full and the shop clean, even with all the dust from the street outside. It’s what we know best.
