We are tucked away behind Manda Street near Mata Mandir. Most days start early here at Noorani Furniture. You can usually hear the sound of saws or people moving wood around before the sun is even fully up. It gets pretty dusty in the shop but that is just how it is when you are working with your hands. My father started things here and we just kept going. People from the neighborhood stop by, sometimes just to say hello or ask if we can fix a broken chair leg. It is a small space but we make it work. The area around Mata Mandir is always busy, so there is plenty of noise from the street coming in. We don't have a big fancy showroom with bright lights. It is just a workshop where we get things done. Sometimes the wood delivery is late and we have to wait around drinking tea until the truck can get through the narrow lanes. That is just life in this part of town. We handle a lot of different requests. Most of the time it is cupboards or bed frames. It is hard work and your back hurts by the end of the day. But seeing a finished piece of furniture ready to go to a neighbor’s house feels good. We have been in this spot for a long time now. Everyone knows where the shop is because of the temple nearby. We just keep the saws running and get through the pile of orders we have.
