Narendrabhai Safa Wala

This business is run right out of our place at Om Joshi Apartment on Lallubhai Park Road. It’s a quiet residential street in Andheri West, which is a nice change from the main roads. We have been tying safas for people for a very long time now. The apartment is often filled with long reams of colorful cloth draped over the furniture. People come to us when they have a wedding or a special function coming up and they need someone who knows how to wrap a turban properly. It takes a lot of practice to get the folds just right so they don't slip during the ceremony. We usually have a lot of customers dropping in during the morning hours, especially on weekends. Our hands are always busy with the fabric, and you can see the wear and tear from years of pulling and tucking the cloth. It isn't a shop with a big sign outside, just a regular home where we do our work. We sit on the floor mostly because it's easier to handle the long pieces of material that way. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when a whole family comes in at once, but we manage. We just focus on the task at hand and try to make sure every safa looks correct before they head out the door. It is a simple way of living and working that we have grown quite fond of over the years.
