Nakshatra Import & Export Corp.

Our office is in the Flox Chamber over at Opera House. It is 105/C. Being in this part of Mumbai means there is never a quiet moment. The traffic outside is constant. We spend a lot of time on the phone dealing with shipments and customs stuff. The elevator in this building is quite slow so we often take the stairs. It is good exercise I guess. Inside, the space is filled with the sound of typing and people talking. We have desks pushed close together. There are maps pinned to the walls and calendars with dates circled in red. We deal with a lot of papers every single day. Import and export is mostly about making sure everything matches up. It is tedious work sometimes. We drink a lot of cutting chai from the stall downstairs. The windows get dirty fast from the city soot. We don't have a receptionist. If someone walks in, whoever is closest to the door says hello. It is a practical setup for the kind of work we do. We are not interested in looking like a big corporation. We just want to get the crates moving and the forms signed. By the end of the day, my eyes usually ache from the screen. We lock up and join the crowd at the station. It is a busy life but it is ours. We do our best to stay organized amidst all the noise.
