Modi Masala

Modi Masala is located on the second floor, Shop 202, in Building 5. We are right in Ram Nagar on SV Road in Goregaon West. It’s a pretty crowded part of Mumbai, so there’s always noise from the street below. We’ve been here for a bit, just providing local families with their basic kitchen spices. Being on the second floor means people have to walk up, but they still come for the fresh smell of the powders. We do a lot of the grinding right here. The machines can be a bit loud during the day, but that’s just how it is. We try to keep things organized, though with so many bags of turmeric and chili, it gets a bit tight in the shop. It’s just us working here, making sure everything is weighed correctly and packed into small bags. We see a lot of the same faces every week. It’s a small operation, really. We don't use any big fancy machines, just the standard ones that get the job done. Sometimes we run out of certain things if the delivery from the market is late. We just tell people to come back the next day. It’s a very local way of doing things. We like being part of the Goregaon community. It’s a lot of work keeping the place clean and the spices fresh, but we manage.
