Mk Fashioners

Down here in Goregaon West, specifically in Jijamata Nagar, things are always moving fast. We started Mk Fashioners because we wanted to work for ourselves instead of someone else. Our space isn't huge, but it fits what we need to get the work done. Mumbai is always humid, so working with a lot of fabric can get a bit sticky in the afternoons. We have a few machines running and the sound of them becomes like background music after an hour or two. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, or the delivery guys get stuck in that famous Mumbai traffic, but we manage to stay on track. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us doing the sewing and checking the pieces before they go out. Neighbors often stop by to chat while we are working. It feels more like a community spot than a cold office. We spend a lot of time just looking at different patterns and trying to figure out what will look okay once it’s actually made. Some days are slow and we just sit around drinking cutting chai, but then other days we are working late into the night to finish up a batch. It is a bit messy with threads on the floor and scraps of cloth in the corners, but it feels like a real workplace. That’s how we like it for now.
