Mhatres Dry Fishes

We are located in Borivali West, specifically at Gala 5 and 7 in the dry fish section of the BM market area. If you’ve never been to this part of the market, the first thing you’ll notice is the strong smell. It’s just the nature of the business. We spend our days sorting through different kinds of dried fish and weighing them out for customers. The stalls are packed with crates and bags, and it can be a bit of a tight squeeze. We get our stock from the coast and have to make sure it stays dry, especially when the monsoon season starts and the air gets damp. Our family has been doing this for a long time. We don’t have a fancy storefront with glass windows; it’s an open-air market style. We talk to the same regulars who come every week to get their supplies. Sometimes we have to deal with the heat or the flies, but that’s just how it is in a fish market. We use old scales to weigh everything and wrap the fish in paper or plastic bags. It’s hard work, standing on the concrete floors all day and moving heavy crates around. We don't use any big marketing tricks. People know where we are and what we sell. It’s a plain, honest way to make a living in Borivali, and we just keep the stalls running the best way we know how.
