Mercury International

The Iron Market can be a tough place to work during the summer. Mercury International is located at 207, Sant Tukaram Road, and it is right in the thick of it. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal and the roar of big diesel engines. The dust is something you just have to get used to. We keep the doors open to catch any breeze, but mostly we just get the grit from the road. Our office is small and tucked into the building. We have stacks of invoices and shipping orders piled up on every surface. Sant Tukaram Road is always busy with trucks coming and going. Sometimes they get stuck in the narrow parts and everything grinds to a halt for an hour. We handle international business from here, which feels a bit strange when you look at the dusty street outside. We spend a lot of time on the phone trying to hear over the noise of the market. The tea here is strong and we drink it out of small glass cups. We do not have fancy carpets or glass walls. It is all concrete and iron around here. We know the other guys in the market and we keep an eye on each other’s stuff. It is hard work and the days are long, but we have been at 207 for a while now. We just keep moving the iron and making the calls.
