About Meghana Fisheries – Food & Beverages in Mumbai
Running Meghana Fisheries out of Shantiniketan Sagar Society isn't exactly what you’d call a glamorous job. It’s mostly a lot of ice and heavy boxes. We are over in C/6, and usually, the hallway smells a bit like the ocean, which some neighbors don't always love. Every morning involves checking the temperature and making sure everything is sitting right in the bins. It is cold work. Your hands get kind of numb after a while. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to people about what came in that day. Sometimes the catch is good, sometimes it is just okay. We don't try to dress it up much. People know where we are in the society. It’s a bit of a trek to the back of the building but we’ve been here long enough that folks find us. The floor stays wet pretty much all day. We use a lot of plastic sheets to keep things from leaking. It’s just us doing the work, moving stuff from the van to the storage. There are no big signs or bright lights here. Just a couple of scales and some sharp knives for when people want things cleaned up a bit before they head home. It gets busy around dinner time when everyone realizes they forgot to buy something for the main dish. We just keep going until the last box is empty.
