Nemi Chem is tucked away in Anand Building at Plot No. 108 on Kazi Sayed Street. If you’ve ever walked down Kazi Sayed Street, you know how packed it gets with people and carts moving goods. Our building, number 82/84, is right in the thick of it. It’s an old part of the city, and the walls in our office have that thick, aged feel to them. We deal in chemicals, so there’s often a specific kind of smell in the air around the street, a mix of spices from the nearby markets and the industrial stuff we handle. The office itself is small and packed with files. We’ve got shelves reaching up to the ceiling because there’s never enough floor space. Most of our day is spent negotiating with suppliers and making sure the orders for our clients are packed correctly. It’s a lot of manual record-keeping even though we have a computer now. The street outside is so narrow that getting deliveries in and out is always a bit of a puzzle. You have to time it just right or you’ll block the whole road for everyone. We’ve been here long enough that we know all the other shopkeepers on the block. We drink a lot of chai and talk about the market trends. It’s a busy life, and the pace never really slows down until late in the evening. There's always someone knocking on the door or a phone ringing in the background.
