We are located on the third floor of Pardhi House in Vile Parle East. It is a bit of a walk up if the lift is being slow, which happens more often than we would like. Being right on M G Road means it is always noisy outside. You can hear the horns and the traffic from the CP Tank area all day long. We are right above the Bank of India, so people usually find us by looking for the big bank sign first and then heading upstairs. It is a busy part of the city with everyone rushing to the station or doing their daily banking. Up on the third floor, it is a little bit quieter than the street level, but the city sounds still find their way in. The space inside is quite simple and honest. We have the same old tables and chairs we have had for years. We spend a lot of time sweeping because the dust from the main road settles on everything if you leave the windows open. The name Mamacha Gaon means mother’s village, and we try to keep that sort of plain feeling even though we are stuck in the middle of a crowded place like Mumbai. We do not bother with fancy decorations or expensive lighting. Mostly we just focus on the kitchen work and making sure the tea is ready. In the afternoons, the sun hits the windows hard, so we just pull the shades and keep working until the evening rush starts.
