Mahindrakar Tailors

Mahindrakar Tailors is right here in Shop No 4 at the Shroff Building. We spend most of our days at the 7th Cross on Vasanthpura Main Road. It is a busy spot near Konnakunta Cross, right across from the old Digvijay Mill. We have been working with needles and thread in this small space for quite some time now. Some days the machines never stop humming from morning until late evening. People from around the neighborhood drop by with all sorts of requests, mostly fixes or getting new clothes stitched for a wedding or just for work. The shop isn't fancy at all. We have racks of fabrics and some old mirrors that have seen better days. When the sun hits the street outside, it gets pretty warm in here, so we usually keep the door propped open. You can hear the traffic and the people walking toward the mill area all day long. Sometimes the measurements get confusing when customers are in a rush, but we just try to get the fit right. It’s hard work on the eyes, especially when the light starts fading in the late afternoon. We usually take a tea break around four when the boy from the corner stall comes by. It is just a regular life of cutting cloth, marking chalk lines, and making sure the seams don't come apart. We keep things simple and just stay focused on the garments sitting on our tables.
