Mahek Impex India is tucked away in 3, Manibhai Apt., right near N. L. School in Malad. It’s a local neighborhood, so we see a lot of the same faces walking by every day. Working out of an apartment building means we have to be mindful of the neighbors, especially when we have packages arriving or leaving. We do a lot of import and export work, which basically means we spend our time on the phone or computer tracking shipments from all over. It can get pretty stressful when a container is stuck at the port or a document is missing a stamp. Malad is a crowded place, and sometimes the traffic makes it hard for couriers to get to us on time. We’ve got shelves full of samples and folders everywhere. It’s not the most organized-looking place, but we know where everything is. Usually, it’s just us and the sound of the ceiling fan while we work through the daily list of tasks. We started small and just kept at it, year after year. There isn’t a big marketing team or anything like that. We just handle the requests as they come in. If someone needs something sourced from overseas, we look into it and see if it’s doable. It’s a lot of waiting for emails from different time zones, so our hours can be a bit weird sometimes, but that’s just the nature of the job. We just keep plugging away.
