Maharaja Mutton Supplier has been on Stadium Road in Bandra West for a long time. We open up very early in the morning, usually before the sun is even up. That’s when the fresh stock arrives. It’s a busy place with a lot of noise and people coming in and out. We supply to local households and some of the smaller eateries nearby. The shop isn't fancy at all. We have the cutting blocks, the hooks, and our scales. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting and cutting all day. My father started this and I’ve been here since I was a teenager. We know most of our customers by their names because they’ve been coming to us for years. We don't bother with fancy signs or advertisements. People just know where we are on the road. It can get quite hot in the afternoons, but we have a couple of big fans going. We try to keep things as clean as possible, which is a lot of scrubbing at the end of every shift. There’s always someone drinking tea and chatting by the front. We aren't a big corporation, just a family-run spot trying to do a fair job. Sometimes the supply is a bit short if there’s a holiday, but we do our best to make it work. It’s a tough job but it’s what we’ve always done. It’s how we make our living and stay connected with the Bandra neighborhood.
