Our workspace is in Chawl No. 81, Room No. 9, inside the Lalta Prasad Sukla Chawl in Khotwadi. It is right in the middle of Santacruz West. It is a small setup, mostly just a few sewing machines and stacks of different fabrics piled up everywhere. We make clothes here. It is not a big factory or a shop, just a room where we sit and work on whatever orders come in. Some days it is shirts, and other days it is different garments depending on what people are asking for at the time. The lanes in Khotwadi are quite narrow, so it is always a bit of a struggle getting the big fabric rolls inside the room. We have lived and worked around this neighborhood for a long time now. Almost everyone in the chawl knows us and what we do. It is a loud place with kids playing in the passage and people talking, but it is where we belong. We started this because we knew how to stitch and thought we could make a decent living from it. It is hard work sitting at the machine for so many hours, but it pays the bills. We do not have a big brand name or any fancy labels. We just make the clothes and send them out to the customers. If you come by, you will hear the hum of the machines long before you see our door.
