Our shop is located at number 5 in Popatlal Niwas. We are on M G Road in Dadar West, which is always a hive of activity. Being near the Canara Bank means there are always people walking past our door. The shop itself is quite packed. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, and sometimes you need a ladder just to get a simple item down for a customer. It’s a bit cramped inside, especially when more than three people come in at once. We’ve got a wooden counter that’s been worn smooth over the years. There’s no air conditioning, just a big ceiling fan that wobbles a bit when it’s on high. We sell all sorts of daily needs. The inventory changes depending on what people are asking for lately. The noise from the Dadar station is just part of the background here. You hear the whistles and the announcements all day long. We start our day by pulling up the metal shutters, which makes a lot of noise. Then we spend time dusting the shelves because the city grime gets everywhere. It’s a local store where we know most of the people who walk in by their first names. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just focus on keeping the shelves stocked and the change drawer ready. It’s a simple life behind the counter, watching the world go by on M G Road.
