Working over here near the International Airport Project in Chakala has its own rhythm. Being right by the New Link Road means it is never actually quiet. There is always a crane moving or some truck reversing nearby. Our spot in Andheri West is right in the middle of all that dust and construction noise. L & T Ltd. has been based out of this site for the duration of the current works. It is a lot of temporary walls, heavy boots, and blueprints spread out on desks that have seen better days. The traffic in Chakala is something you just have to plan your whole life around. If you leave five minutes late, you’re stuck for an hour. Most of the staff knows the local sandwich guys by name because we’re all out here trying to grab a quick bite between shifts. It’s a messy, busy place to be, but that’s the reality of a big project like this one. We aren't tucked away in some quiet office park. We’re right where the actual building is happening. You can smell the hot asphalt and hear the drilling from the morning until the sun goes down. It’s hard work and the office is usually covered in a thin layer of grit from the road. We just focus on the tasks for the day and try to stay ahead of the schedule.
