Komal Fashions

You can find Komal Fashions in room 307 of the Bussa Udyog Bhavan. It’s on T.J. Road in Sewree West. The building is one of those old industrial blocks with a lot of character and a very slow elevator. We usually just walk up the three floors instead of waiting for it. The workspace is filled with the sound of fans and the occasional radio playing in the background. We have piles of garments everywhere. It’s not the most organized place, but we know where everything is kept. Sewree is an interesting part of town, quite different from the newer areas. We see the same faces every day in the hallways of the Bhavan. The lighting in our unit is a bit dim, so we have some extra lamps near the cutting tables. We’ve been here for years, and the walls are covered with old calendars and notes pinned up. We don't have a website that works very well, so we mostly talk to people on the phone or in person. It’s a bit hot in the summer because the ventilation isn't the best, but we have a couple of good fans that help. Lunchtime is when we all sit together and talk about anything other than work. We handle a lot of different styles, and every day there’s something new to fix or finish. It’s just our little corner of Mumbai where we keep busy with our needles and threads. The afternoon sun hits the window just right around three o'clock.
