Koliwada Fish Mart

Koliwada Fish Mart is located on M G Road in Chembur East, near the 41407 area. We get here very early in the morning, usually while it’s still dark, to receive the crates coming in. Everything is wet and cold most of the time because of all the ice we use to keep things fresh. It’s a busy spot on the road, and you can’t really miss us because of the smell of the sea and the noise of us chopping on the wooden blocks. We spend a lot of time cleaning scales off the floor and making sure the water drains out properly. Customers come in looking for specific things for their lunch, and we spend a good chunk of the day just talking to them about what’s good today. We don't have any air conditioning or fancy displays, just the tiled counters and the plastic crates. Sometimes the floor gets slippery, so we have to be careful. It’s a lot of heavy lifting with the baskets and the ice blocks. By the afternoon, we’re usually starting to wind down as the stock gets low. It’s a tough job on the hands and back, but we’ve been doing it a long time here on M G Road. We know the regular families who come by every week. It’s just a simple fish mart where we do the work and try to go home once the bins are empty. We’ll be here tomorrow morning too.
