Working out of Oriental House on Jamshedji Tata Road puts us right in the middle of everything in Churchgate. It’s one of those old buildings that has a lot of character, even if the elevators are a bit slow and the hallways are kind of dim. Kilachand Devchand & Co. Ltd. has been around for quite a long time, and you can sort of feel that history when you walk through the doors. The office is usually filled with the sound of typing and people shuffling through stacks of documents. Being so close to the station means there’s a constant stream of people outside, and we usually time our lunch breaks to avoid the worst of the rush. Inside, it’s mostly just desks, cabinets, and a few dusty plants that someone forgets to water every now and then. We don't really do the whole modern office thing with bean bags or open floor plans. It’s more traditional here. We handle our business, deal with the daily emails, and try to stay on top of the logistics that come with being a limited company. There’s always some form to fill out or a ledger to update. We spend a lot of time on the phone dealing with people who are also stuck in their own offices around the city. It’s a lot of routine, but it works for us. We like the neighborhood, even with the noise from the street, and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm.
