We spend a lot of our time moving between the basement and the shop at Jains Arcade. Being in Khar West means it is always crowded outside on Linking Road, especially in the evenings when everyone is out shopping. We have Shop No. 24 and then that basement area too, which is where most of the actual work happens. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes with all the fabric rolls and papers lying around. Then we also have the other spot at Satra Park Building over in Borivali. That’s Shop No. G40-41 on Shinpoli Road. It is quite a distance between the two places if you think about Mumbai traffic. My staff is usually busy handling something or the other in one of these locations. Designing things takes up the whole day and sometimes we don't even notice it’s getting dark outside. The basement is cooler than the shop floor but it’s packed with stuff. We’ve been at Jains Arcade for some time and the neighbors know us. It isn't a fancy corporate office with glass walls, just a place where people are working hard with their hands and machines. Sometimes the deliveries arrive late because of the Khar Danda Road traffic, but we manage. You’ll mostly find us buried under sketches or checking the fit of a garment. It’s just how Saroj Designs runs, spread out across these busy corners of the city.
