Khan Mushrooms

Khan Mushrooms is based out of J-428 in Vivek Apartments on CST Road in Santacruz East. It might seem a bit unusual to have a business like ours in an apartment building, but it’s where we’ve set up shop. The area is always loud with the sounds of Santacruz, but we have our own quiet routine inside. We don’t grow the mushrooms here; this is where we handle all the logistics, the sorting, and the sales side of things. Most of the work involves getting the fresh produce from the growers and making sure it gets to the restaurants or markets as fast as possible. Timing is everything because mushrooms don't stay fresh for long. We spend a lot of time on our phones and looking at schedules. The office is small and usually has a few crates sitting around ready to go out. We are just a few people working together, so there’s no corporate hierarchy or anything like that. We just do what needs to be done. Sometimes we are here very early to catch the first deliveries of the day. It’s a lot of back-and-forth and making sure the cooling is just right. We don't have a storefront, so we don't get many walk-in customers. Most people just know us through the trade. It’s a simple, honest business that keeps us very busy throughout the year.
