Kantilal Manilal & Company Ltd is tucked away in Appejay Chambers on Wallance Street. We are right on the first floor, which is lucky for everyone's legs. Fort is a busy area, full of old buildings and narrow lanes. Our office feels like a step back in time. We have these heavy wooden desks and old-fashioned cabinets for all our records. We’ve been operating from here for a long time, dealing with trading and general commercial work. The atmosphere in the building is quiet, even though the street outside is a mess of people and taxis. You can hear the city humming all day. We start our day with a small prayer and then get to the ledger books. Everything is done very systematically here. We don't use much fancy technology, just the basics to get the job done. The tea seller comes by in the mid-morning and that's usually when we take a small break. Our walls are painted a simple cream color, though it's peeling a bit in the corners. We don't worry too much about the decor as long as the work is accurate. It’s a steady kind of business. We see the same faces every day and we like it that way. Most of our partners have been working with us for decades. We just keep things moving along slowly and surely.
