Pedder Road is always busy with cars and people moving fast, but our spot in the Jewelers Apartment is a bit different. It’s Plot No. 3, and we’ve been here at number 56 for quite a while now. My sons and I handle the daily stuff. It’s an old building, but it has a certain character that you don't find in the newer places. Inside, there are old wooden desks and cabinets filled with tools and some pieces we are working on. We don't have a big flashing sign or anything like that. People mostly know us because they’ve been coming here for years or their parents told them about us. The morning sun comes through the window in a specific way that makes it easy to see the stones we are looking at. Sometimes we sit and have tea while waiting for a customer to drop by with a watch or a ring that needs fixing. It’s a quiet life compared to the street outside. We keep the floor swept and the glass wiped down, though dust always finds its way back in. There’s a lot of history in these walls, I suppose. It’s just a family place where we do our work and try to keep things moving along. Pedder Road keeps changing, but inside the apartment, things stay mostly the same. We have seen the neighborhood grow, but we just stick to our routine here in the apartment.
