Our place is over at 9 A in the Akurli Industrial Estate. If you know Kandivali East, you know Akurli Road gets pretty crowded with all the trucks and workers. We are tucked inside the estate with a lot of other units. It’s an industrial area, so it’s noisy and dusty most of the time. We do apparel work here. Inside, it’s mostly rows of workstations and piles of cloth. We don’t have a big reception or anything like that. People just walk straight into the work area. We’ve been here at this address for a good bit of time. The morning starts with getting the machines warmed up and checking what needs to be finished by evening. It’s a lot of coordination between the cutting and the sewing parts. Sometimes the power fluctuates, which is just part of being in an industrial estate in Mumbai. We try to keep things organized, but when big orders come in, space gets a bit tight. We have our regulars who know where to find us. It’s a long walk from the station if you’re not used to it, so most people take an auto. We just stick to our routine and handle the garments. It isn't a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. Every day is pretty much the same mix of noise, thread, and moving boxes around. It is just a regular factory setting.
