Kanan Knitwear

We are based in the Amir Industrial Estate, units 204 and 205. It’s inside the Sun Mill Compound in Lower Parel. This area used to be all mills, and now it’s a mix of everything. Our building is one of those old industrial ones that has seen a lot of history. We’ve got two rooms next to each other where we handle all the knitwear. It can get pretty cramped with all the boxes and the machines sitting around. Lower Parel is always crowded, so getting things in and out can be a real headache with the traffic. We’ve been here for years, though, so we are used to the noise. The stairs are a bit steep and the elevator is slow, but it works fine for us. We mostly just focus on the knitting and making sure the quality is okay before we pack anything. It’s not a glamorous job. There’s lint everywhere and it gets noisy when everyone is working. But we like the work. We have a small crew and we’ve all been working together for a long time. We know each other's families and stories. It feels more like a small workshop than a big corporation. We just keep our heads down and finish the day's tasks. It’s what we know how to do. We usually close up around six in the evening and head to the station.
