Kalpana Crafts- The Pashmina Store is located at Shop No.8 in the Hotel Leela, which is right near the Airport Road Metro Station in Andheri East. Most days it’s just us here waiting for the next person to walk in. The shop isn't huge, but we have many shelves filled with pashminas. People coming from the airport often stop by because they need a gift or just something warm for their flight. You can hear the metro trains going past if you listen closely enough. Andheri is always noisy, so we are used to the sound of traffic and horns outside. We spend a lot of time unfolding and folding the shawls. They come in all sorts of colors, some bright and some more plain. It takes a while to keep everything tidy because customers like to touch the fabric and see how it feels. We don't have a big fancy sign, just the usual one. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, but we just keep the door open for light. It’s a simple spot to work. We know the other shopkeepers around the hotel too. We’ve been in this specific unit for some time now. Dealing with the pashminas is quiet work mostly. We check the embroidery and make sure there are no loose threads before putting things back. It is just a regular day-to-day business here near the station.
