Soneri Sarees

Our shop is at 15 Old Hanuman Lane. It’s right in the 1st Cross Line on the ground floor. Being on Kalbadevi Road in Mumbai means it’s always busy. If you know the area, you know how narrow the lanes are. Soneri Sarees is right in the middle of all that. We have stacks of sarees reaching almost to the ceiling. It’s a ground floor space, so it’s easy to step in from the street. The air is always filled with the sounds of the market. We have fans going to keep the humidity down. Most of the day is spent unfolding and refolding fabric for people who come in. The light isn’t great in the back of the shop, so we bring things to the front to show the colors properly. Mumbai life is fast, but inside the shop, we take our time. We’ve been at this spot for years. 15 Old Hanuman Lane is a familiar address to many. We don't use fancy displays. The sarees are the main thing. We keep the floor swept, but dust always finds its way in from the lane. It’s just how it is here. We drink a lot of cutting chai during the day. Sometimes it gets so crowded in the lane that delivery carts have trouble passing. We just keep doing our work at Soneri Sarees. It is a small place but it serves us well for the work we do.
