We’ve been here at shop number five in Champa Gali for a while now. It’s right across from M. J. Market, which stays busy from morning till night. Most days we are just moving fabric rolls around or talking to people who walk down the lane looking for something specific. Champa Gali has a certain smell of old buildings and new cloth. It’s not a fancy place, but it works for what we do. The lane is narrow, so it gets crowded quickly. We usually have the door open to get some air. If you stand outside the shop, you can see the hustle of the main market just a few steps away. We deal with all sorts of materials, mostly just things people need for their own tailoring or small shops. It’s a lot of lifting and measuring. Sometimes the tea guy from the corner comes by and we take a break. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us making sure the orders are right. The lighting inside isn't the brightest, but we know where everything is. People come here because they know the area. It’s practical. We don’t spend much time on decorations. The shelves are packed to the ceiling with whatever we’ve brought in for the week. It’s a simple setup at 34/40. We just keep our heads down and handle the daily work as it comes. It is a bit dusty sometimes, but that is the market life.
