Star Rainwear

Our workshop is located at Gala No. Bh-17 inside the Shukla Compound. It’s right opposite Veena Dalvai in the Jogeshwari West area. If you’ve never been to the compound, it can be a bit tricky to navigate the narrow lanes between the galas. We’ve been here for a good number of years now. We mainly focus on rainwear because the Mumbai rains don't give anyone a choice. The space inside is mostly filled with rolls of fabric and finished sets waiting to be shipped out. We don’t have any air conditioning, so we rely on the big ceiling fans to keep the air moving during the humid months. It’s a noisy environment with all the other workshops around us, but we find the rhythm of it quite steady. We usually start our day early to beat the worst of the heat. There’s a lot of manual work involved, from cutting to packing. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just a practical space where we can get our work done without distractions. The walls are a bit stained from the dampness of the monsoons, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. We just keep our heads down and try to stay on top of the orders. It’s a small operation but it keeps us busy enough. We usually grab lunch at a small food stall just outside the main gate.
