Jani Industries

If you go to 328 Samuel Street in Vadgadi, that’s where you’ll find Jani Industries. This part of Mumbai is incredibly old and busy. The streets are very narrow and there are handcarts and trucks everywhere you look. It’s a struggle just to walk down the sidewalk sometimes. Our office is in one of those old buildings that has seen a lot of years. The walls are thick and the ceilings are high. It smells like spices and chemicals around here because of all the traders in the neighborhood. We spend a lot of time dealing with people who come in from the docks or other markets. There’s always someone shouting or a horn honking outside. Inside, it’s a bit of a mess with samples and boxes everywhere. We don’t really have a system for decoration; we just put things where they fit. We’ve got a small wooden desk where the main work happens. The electrical wiring is a bit of a jumble along the walls, but the lights work fine most of the time. Most of us have worked in Vadgadi for decades. We know the tea sellers and the other shop owners on the street. It’s a tough place to work because of the heat and the crowds, but it’s where all the trade happens. We just do our part in the middle of all that chaos and make sure the orders get delivered.
