Isha Garments is based over at No. 13 in the WICEL building, which is part of the MIDC in Andheri East. If you know Mumbai, you know how busy Andheri East can get. It’s a bit of a maze getting through the traffic to reach us. Our unit is a practical space designed for work, not for showing off. We have rows of machines and cutting tables that take up most of the floor. There’s always a bit of dust from the fabric floating in the air. We’ve been operating out of this spot for a long time. The building itself is older, and you can see the wear and tear on the hallways. We don't mind it much because we’re focused on the garments. Our staff is a mix of people who have been with us since the start and some newer faces. We talk a lot while we work, mostly about our families or what’s for dinner. It’s a bit cramped when a new shipment of fabric arrives, and we have to shuffle everything around to make room. We don't have any polished mission statements or fancy logos on the walls. Just some calendars and maybe a few notes pinned up. It’s a real, working-class environment where we put in the hours every day. When the monsoon hits, we have to be extra careful with the stock. It’s just part of the job here in Andheri.
