Home Decor Textiles Export Pvt. Ltd. is based at 407-A in the Hill View Industrial Estate, just off L.B.S. Marg in Ghatkopar West. Being on L.B.S. Marg means we are right in the thick of Mumbai’s industrial heart, with the constant sound of traffic and the general hum of the city always in the background. Our unit is up on the fourth floor, and although it’s called Hill View, we mostly just see the tops of other industrial buildings and the hazy sky. The space is filled with rolls of fabric and various textile samples that we are preparing for export. It’s a busy environment where the sewing machines are often running in the back while we handle the office work in the front. The lift in the building is old and sometimes takes its time, so we often end up taking the stairs. We spend our hours checking patterns, measuring cloth, and dealing with the logistics of moving goods through the crowded streets of Ghatkopar. The air inside always has that specific smell of new fabric and industrial cleaning supplies. It’s a practical, hardworking space where everyone has a specific job to do. We don’t have any fancy decorations on the walls, just calendars and some old photos. It’s a real, messy, productive place where we focus on getting the textile orders out the door on time, despite the chaos of the busy city right outside our windows.
