Our workshop is tucked away in the MIDC area of Marol, over in Andheri East. If you know this part of Mumbai, you know it’s all about industry and getting things built. At Hilden Packaging Machines Pvt.Ltd, we spend most of our time around grease, metal parts, and blueprints. It’s a noisy place because there is always a machine being tested or some parts being moved around. The air smells like oil and burnt metal sometimes. We focus on the machines that pack things up for other companies. It’s technical work, and sometimes things don’t fit right the first time, so we have to go back and fix it. We aren’t sitting in a fancy glass building. We’re on the ground, making sure the gears turn like they should. Most of the guys here have dirty fingernails and wear work boots because that’s the job. We have a small office section where we handle the paperwork, but the real work happens on the floor. It gets really humid in Marol during the monsoon, and the roof leaks a little in the corner, but we just put a bucket there and keep working. People come to us when their lines break down or they need a new setup. We just show them what we’ve got and try to help them out. It’s a simple operation, really, just keeping the industry moving one machine at a time. This place isn't perfect, but it is where the real work gets done every day.
