You have to head up to the second floor of Orient House to find us. We are at Unit 21, right in the middle of Udyog Nagar. It’s a busy area in Goregaon West, and if you’re coming from S.V. Road, you know the traffic can be a real headache. Being near Kamat Club is a good landmark, otherwise, people might miss the turn into the industrial estate. The space inside is mostly taken up by the work tables and the equipment we use for the embroidery. It’s a bit cramped when we have a lot of stock coming in, but we make it work by stacking things high against the walls. The windows don’t let in much of a breeze, so the ceiling fans are always humming away. We spend most of the day sorting through different colored threads and checking the patterns on the fabric. There’s no big reception desk or anyone waiting to greet you; you just walk in and see everyone busy with their hands. Sometimes we order tea from the stall downstairs and drink it while standing up because there aren't many places to sit. It’s a noisy, busy kind of life in this part of town. We just try to keep up with the schedule and make sure the piles of finished work don't get too messy before they go out. It gets pretty tiring, but we’re used to the pace by now.
