Our factory is situated in Goregaon West, inside the Somani Industrial Estate on Ram Mandir Road. It is a typical industrial area in Somani Gram where there are always trucks moving around and people loading goods. We have been running Paramount Apparel here for a long time. When you walk inside, you will hear the constant noise of sewing machines and the hiss of the steam irons. We have many people working at long tables, cutting through layers of fabric and putting different garments together. It is not a quiet place, but it is where everything happens. The air usually smells a bit like machine oil and fresh cloth. We do not have a showroom for people to browse; it is mostly just the production floor and some desk space for keeping the records straight. Ram Mandir Road gets very congested in the mornings, so we all try to get to work early to avoid the worst of the traffic. When we have a large order to finish, the lights stay on late into the evening. The rolls of fabric take up most of the floor space, so we have to be careful where we walk. Sometimes when the monsoon rain hits Goregaon, the sound on the metal roof is so loud we can hardly hear each other speak. We just keep our heads down and focus on getting the clothes finished and shipped out.
