Our office is tucked away on the third floor of Raut Chambers on Samuel Street. If you know Masjid West, you know how crowded and lively Vadgadi is. It’s a maze of narrow lanes and old buildings. Ghewarchand Gulabchand & Co has been around for a very long time. We’ve seen the market change through the years, but our corner of it stays pretty much the same. The stairs up to our office are narrow and a bit steep, which keeps us fit. Inside, it’s mostly old wooden desks and stacks of ledgers. We do have a computer now, but the old ways of doing business still matter here. We trade in various goods and deal with many regular traders who have been coming to us for decades. The street outside is always full of handcarts and people carrying heavy loads. It’s a noisy, dusty, and vibrant place to work. Sometimes the monsoon rains flood the lower streets, and everything slows down for a bit. We just sit upstairs and wait for the water to recede. We don’t have any fancy advertisements. Our reputation in the market is just based on being here every day and doing what we say we will do. It’s a family-run operation, and there’s a lot of history in these walls. We aren't looking to move to a modern office tower; we like being right here in the middle of the action with the rest of the traders.
