Our place is tucked away in 2-A Cusraw Baug, right there on Colaba Causeway. It’s a very old part of the city and you can feel it in the walls of the building. Most people know the area for the shops and the tourists walking around everywhere, but we are just inside the gate where it stays a little bit quieter. We spend most of our hours handling exports for Gazali Exports and making sure the boxes are ready to go out. The ceiling is high like those old colonial constructions, which helps during the humid months when the air feels heavy. We don’t really have a big reception area or anyone to greet you at the door. Usually, it’s just one of us sitting at the main table checking the shipping manifests and making phone calls to the docks. Sometimes the internet is slow and we have to restart the router a few times a day, which is annoying but we manage. On Fridays, the traffic outside is a nightmare so we try to get our big deliveries out early. We’ve got a small kettle in the corner for making chai because we can’t keep running out to the stalls. It’s a busy life here in Colaba and we’ve been part of this street for a long time now. The furniture is a bit worn out at the edges but it does the job just fine for what we need.
