Down here at 201 Patel Industrial Estate, it’s always loud. Being near the Safed Pool and Andheri Kurla Road means there is never any peace from the traffic. We’ve got the machines running almost all day long. We make a lot of packaging stuff. Cardboard, plastic, whatever the clients ask for that week. The floors are concrete and usually have scraps of paper on them. We try to keep things organized but when a big order comes in, it gets chaotic. The air smells a bit like glue and ink most of the time. My desk is right by the front door so I see everyone coming in. We don't really have a lobby, just some chairs for people to sit while we fetch their paperwork. It gets quite hot in the summer because the roof is metal. We drink a lot of water and try to stay in the shade. It’s hard work, moving these heavy rolls of material around, but we have a good crew. Most of the guys have been here for five years or more. We don't talk much during the shift because the noise is too much. Once the machines turn off at night, the silence feels strange. We just lock up the shutters and head home to do it all again the next morning. It’s a steady life in a busy industrial area.
