Firni & More is a small shop at Byculla 26. We mostly focus on making firni, which is what we’ve always done. The shop is narrow and has high ceilings. We spend most of the night and early morning boiling milk in these large heavy pots. It’s a slow process, and the steam makes the whole place feel damp. We don't have a website or a big social media thing going on. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for people to come by. The counter is made of old wood and it’s a bit stained from the clay pots we use. We have a small fridge in the corner that we have to defrost every week, which is a total mess. Byculla is a busy area, but our street is a bit quieter than the main road. We get the same elderly men coming in every afternoon for a treat. We don't have a big "about us" story. It’s just a family-run thing where we use the same recipe we've had forever. There’s no marketing budget. We just buy the best milk we can find and hope the electricity doesn't go out. Sometimes the clay pots arrive broken, and we have to argue with the delivery guy about it. It’s just the usual daily headaches of running a small business in an old neighborhood like Byculla. It takes a lot of work to keep it going.
