Fashion Threads

You can find Fashion Threads over in Santacruz West, specifically on Furniture Street in Mangal Bazar. We are located in Zohra Bai Chawl, Shop Number 3, right opposite the Kabrastan. It’s a very specific location and the area is always buzzing with activity. Being in a chawl means the space is tight, but we’ve managed to fit a lot of clothing into the shop. We have racks of clothes lining the walls and a small counter near the front door. The street outside is usually blocked with people looking at furniture or shopping for groceries at the bazar. It gets really loud with all the shouting and the vehicles trying to squeeze through the small gaps. We open up early and stay open until late in the evening because that’s when most people are out. The shop has a simple concrete floor and we keep a small radio playing in the corner for some background noise. We don’t spend money on fancy decorations; we just focus on having enough variety for whoever walks in. It’s a family-run thing and we all take turns behind the counter throughout the week. Sometimes we sit outside on plastic stools when it’s not too busy just to watch the people go by. It’s a gritty, real part of Mumbai and we are just glad to be a part of the local community here.
