You can find Essar Impex over at D/503 Kshitij on Film City Road. Being in Goregaon East means there is always a lot of traffic, especially with the studios nearby. Our office is in a residential-commercial type of building, so it feels a bit more relaxed than a cold industrial park. We handle a lot of import and export stuff, which basically means we spend our lives on the phone or tracking shipments on the computer. It’s not a glamorous job. There are always some papers missing or a delay at the port that we have to figure out. We keep our operation lean. It’s just us and a few computers and a lot of coffee. The view from Kshitij is alright, but mostly we are looking at our screens. We don’t do big fancy presentations for people. If someone wants to trade with us, we just talk to them plainly about what we have and what it costs. We’ve been around for a bit and we’ve learned that being straightforward is the best way to keep things moving. Sometimes the rainy season makes the commute to Film City Road a nightmare, but that’s just Mumbai for you. We show up, we do the paperwork, we call the vendors, and we head home. It’s a practical way to run a business without any of the extra fluff.
